Polytopal Sphere Packings for Volumetric Subdivisions, Tubular Surfaces, and Lacunary Structures
Abstract:
Polytopal sphere packings are a family of sphere packings that carry a combinatorial structure defined by an edge-scribable polytope. This feature allows us to define a dual structure, analogous to the duality of planar graphs, for the volumetric meshes produced by the skeletons of these packings. In this talk, we will explore how these objects can be used to extend classic subdivision methods for polygon meshes to volumetric meshes, and to model tubular surfaces and lacunary structures in 2D and 3D.
